The mission of the St. Vincent de Paul Conference in the parish is simple. We attempt to assist local people (of any faith or religion) who are facing a crisis. Examples: an impoverished single mother whose car breaks down, an elderly gentleman suffering from sweltering heat who cannot afford an air conditioner, a family facing eviction because their breadwinner has just lost their job. Besides financially helping people, conference members offer what services they can: mowing a lawn, sitting for a few hours with an elderly (seemingly forgotten) individual, driving someone to the grocery store, etc.
The conference asks Corpus Christi parishioners to help support these efforts by placing a few dollars in the basket (accompanied by a conference member) that will always be in the Atrium of the Church following weekend Masses.
All of the money contributed to the conference, every penny, will be used to help a person in dire straits. There are no hidden administrative costs, transportation allowances, etc. All funds collected by the conference will be counted and recorded by the parish's treasurer before they are spent for the aid of individuals.
The identities of, and the supportive efforts of the conference members will remain anonymous, as will the names of the individuals they help. However, the president of the conference will meet with Fr. Kevin on a regular basis to keep him abreast of conference membership and all related activities.
Individuals who are in trouble and need help . . . or individuals who know of someone who needs help should telephone (862) 226-9559. Any information shared during these telephone calls will be held in secret.
